Blaze Breaks Out At 4-Story Apartment Building In Westchester

A fire that sparked in the laundry room at a Westchester apartment building prompted a fast response from several departments in the area.

The incident happened on Friday, Oct. 13 around 3 p.m., when crews were sent to an apartment building in Port Chester at 140 Grace Church St. for a reported fire. 

According to the Port Chester Fire Department, arriving crews found smoke pouring out of the four-story building, which had been occupied by residents at the time. 

Firefighters then found that the blaze had originated in the laundry room on the ground floor and quickly extinguished it before searching the rest of the building. The fire was placed under control within an hour, the department said.

Crews from the Rye Brook, Rye, Purchase, Town of Mamaroneck, and Tarrytown Fire Departments helped respond to the blaze.
